September 2020 - Simple globes with pronounced tubercles or ribs

Hi Everyone!

First, thank you Henry (Echinocactus123) for choosing my "wild card" photo in the August competition, it was pretty unexpected I must admit!

Back to this month's topic, I will go a bit selfish here, not in the sense of having any chances in winning it, but rather in looking for some inspiration to expand my cacti collection in a very specific direction:

Simple globes with pronounced tubercles or ribs

As a few quick examples, somewhat inspired by last week's Zoom talk (sourced from llifle.com encyclopedia)

That's a pretty good start, especially the first one, as it's hard to tell what's under the spines of the second!

May I ask for an id on these two?

That's why I bought it. I do like a "different" looking cacti.

The first is Gymnocalycium oenanthum, the second is Neoporteria nidus. Yes the spines of the latter are rather dense, but it's definitely a globe! I love the way the spines curve around the body.

Nonetheless, a lovely specimen, straight to the wishlist!
