You should grow mesembs, or smal Mexican and South American cacti. You can grow twenty pots of these on average for every Agave you have..

Yes, lovely plants, but you haven't chosen the smallest growing genus!

I assume all of these will go outside in a few weeks until October? That should free up a lot of space for other plants during the summer.

Yes, quite a few of the larger ones spend the summer outside, as the two that are are starting to flower a few weeks earlier than most others have, I'm hoping that they can set seed earlier and not go back inside. One old fella once said to me that if grow agaves I'll never have enough space. Too right he was.

I would claim ignorance when I acquired these, the bug had bitten me as I just bought whatever I could find. I'm a bit more picky now and always thinking about the space they will need in a few years time

Best regards
Dave

To be honest Dave, I think that all of us do the same. We start with plenty of greenhouse space and keep buying plants, regardless of size. We might even get another greenhouse or two, but at some point common sense kicks in and most of us become more choosy about what we buy, and what we can look after in the time we have available. Almost every grower I know needs more space!

Could always free up greenhouse space by growing some outside

The only thing the soil in our garden is fit for is making bricks.

In Victorian times the back part of my garden was part of a brickworks whose products were shipped them along the 'new' railway to London.

Doesn't matter what your soil is like as, really, you wouldn't be planting directly into it. Make a raised bed, plant them into freely draining material, job done. Where in east Anglia are you? You have lack of rain on your side.

I've added a bit more space in my greenhouse by resting an old plastic coated metal bath rack across the cross supports in the roof. I put a few not too heavy, sun loving plants in. They are sitting in transparent food containers, so I can see that they aren't sitting in water for too long after I've watered them. New bath racks are available on EBay (or similar) for under £10. Check the measurements before buying, of course.
