This plant (and flower) started off my interest in photographing my cacti plants when they flowered. I've rather a lot of Gymnocalyium pictures, but will not upload all of them again. Maybe just a few.

I've realised that I have more gymnos than I thought.  Most of them I've chosen for their spines rather than flowers, so it's fitting that few were in flower when I was taking photos at the weekend. Lots of tem are seedling, too, too young to flower yet. First up, a pair of ever so slightly different spegazzinii ssp cardenasianum.

The other subspecies, G. spegazzinii ssp spegazzinii is the one everyone wants with its curved spines.
This is 'major' VS118:

And this is 'pumillense':
P7070057.JPG
both of those are ones I've grown from seed that are beginning to arm themselves properly.

This next one, Tom 450.1, holds thinner spines slightly further from its body. It came from GC.

It's not much to write home about yet but this last one is the form with short, chunky spines, 'unguispinum' SL44b. Only one seedling survived but it's very cute.
