Corynopuntia Clavata WG.014

Post by Mark07 »

Was nice to see this open today despite the rather cloudy day. I have this labelled as Corynopuntia Clavata WG.014.

I also have another one that came without a label. I was told they weren’t the same but the flower buds look very similar. I’ve tried to id this one myself and came up with Grusonia Bulbispina but may be completely wrong. Any suggestions?

Bulbispina would have quite small segments, Mark, perhaps one or two centimeters long. I would think this is Corynopuntia moelleri, which is similar but has larger segments. I am not certain about the correct name on your first plant, to be honest, which looks rather similar. Clavata should be stronger spined.

Tony wrote a nice introduction to Corynopuntia, see: http://tephro.com/index.php/the-journal ... html?id=14

I've got a plant whose segments look very similar to this one, and mine is labelled C. moelleri. The segments are perhaps 3cm long.

Thank you both for the suggestions. I did doubt the names on these two. I do have a plant labelled Corynopuntia moelleri which looks a little different. This one:

Thanks Tony, they do look very similar to my first two plants.
