Taste one of the fruits when they're ripe, Ray. After removing the areoles, of course. See what you think the flavour is.

Tasty, if small.
Opuntia fruits are available in supermarkets, though species with larger fruits than salmniana. To me, it had a distinct flavour, but I won't tell you - you'll have to find out yourself.
