Always like the intense yellowness of these flowers.

Yes, indeed, this is my favourite 'non-small' opuntia, so definitely an honorary member of the club.
For me, the buds usually come on the pads which appeared the previous year, so from today's photo below I have seven flowers to look forward to in the coming days/weeks:

Note how the buds appear red (from the outer petals) until they open to reveal the yellow!

And, remember, if you remove the 'fruits' soon after, before they have dried up too much, then you can root them down to produce new segments to, again, remove and root down.

I did not know you could do that with pycnantha I have done that with O. pachypus ( Austrocylindro. )
