I lopped a head of my (grafted) Punotia for a forum member earlier in the year and as a result it’s sprouted a lot of new growth. Very tempting to lop a few more off next year and see if it becomes a little bushier.

Whereas my Michael Kießling clone has always been well-branched (both the original grafted on Austrocylindropuntia and the piece I grafted onto Opuntia humifusa) my 'standard British' clone has been fairly reluctant to produce sufficient branches to give it a clump appearance until recently. In the last couple of years (I've had this plant now for 14 years) it has shown a bit more enthusiasm for branching and there is hope that it might become less Medusa-like as time goes on. There are, however, some very long dangly stems that reach down the sides of the pot almost to staging level; maybe this is a strategy for helping it to adjust to the uneven terrain in habitat, forming a ground-hugging clump wherever it happens to be.
