Help with ID please, Gasteria, Haworthia or Aloe?

Post by Fredkarno »

This plant was one of those unlabelled middle isle buys from Sainsbugs or somewhere similar. Any help with Id would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Judging by the flower stem, it looks very much like Aloe haworthioides! That’s quite a find in a supermarket!

Yes, a super little plant. I saw some for sale in my local "chain" garden centre earlier in the year.
Especially interested in Mesembs. small Aloes and South African miniatures and bulbs.

Definitely haworthoides.
Such a particular inflorescence.
Great plant, but very difficult to manually pollinate (I've found) because of the flower shapes.
Great find

The great majority (all????) of plants do not require the corolla (in this case corolla tube), to be present for successful fertilisation. Almost certainly the corolla tube can be cut away, with care, and the flower then successfully pollinated.
