Cumulopuntia sphaerica in action:

This is allegedly the same clone as a plant that won the National a good many years ago (ex-Len Evans, Birmingham branch). The joints have a nice glaucous tinge to them.

Today is the flower's third day, and as you can probably tell, the process whereby some opuntia flowers darken as they age is well underway. These are a much clearer yellow when they first open.

Nice flower - it's been a good weekend for opuntia flowers here in Kent too - O. dimorpha (sphaerica), corrugata, basilaris, mistensis, microdisca .;...

Actually this one doesn't bother growing any more. All it wants to do is flower!

Check the pH of your potting mix.

Some sphaerica clones seem to do this Benjy - they get to a certain point and then flower their socks off continually instead of making new joints.
