This week's opuntia flowers
How's this for a glorious rich colour? Pterocactus valentinii - an unrooted piece flowering after my plant completely fell to pieces.

...and no I wasn't being sarcastic about the flower colour. Vic's described the darker ptero flowers as "mucky brown" but I think they're really attractive.
More conventionally pretty is this clone of Pterocactus megliolii. This is one that definitely appreciates being cut back to reinvigorate it. It's in a 4" pot, and the tuber almost fills it.

And then there's this little gem that I had from Tina last year. These flowers don't half take a long time to develop, but they're worth the wait. It's Cumulopuntia rossiana v. fuauxiana.

They're good from the side, too, with this lovely dark-peachy colouration:

Re: This week's opuntia flowers
Suppose the flowers weren't too bad on the Pterocactus australis I had but a bit of an anticlimax after Rene described them as yellow with a purple throat:S Anyhow, I couldn't of been that impressed as John Gander has the plant now;) Here's a not so brilliant pic:

Cracking plants Stuart. I particularly like the flower on the Pterocactus megliolii

Re: This week's opuntia flowers
Excellent flowers, Stuart. I've had a number of "opuntias" in flower this week but haven't had time to take photos ...yet! Regards,

Re: This week's opuntia flowers
The petals may be "mucky brown," but the contrast of the red filaments and the brilliant yellow anthers on Pterocactus valentinii is beautiful!

Re: This week's opuntia flowers
Not yet Benjy, I think that one's a bit small. My flowering one is probably about four times the size of the one I had from you.
