Hello from Manchester.

Post by Dar1 »

Hi All,

New member just starting out. I'm interested in growing succulents and cacti outdoors. Any plant recommendations or tips would be very much appreciated. I only have a very sheltered, south, southwest facing back yard to grow in.

Here are some pics of my pots. Mostly from cuttings from this year. Plus a couple of bonus pics of my Nepenthes and Drosera getting a bit more light outside. Excuse the chicken wire - it keeps the cats off.

Could some of you post some photo's of your outdoor succs? I need more inspiration and an excuse to buy more plants. :)

Kind regards.

Darran

Welcome to the Forum Darren, you have some nice plants there. I grow my Sempervivums outside, photo below from a few years ago, excuse the untidy background!

There are a number of Forum members who grow many plants outside, so I'm sure you will get plenty of advice and help. Enjoy your plants :welc:

My succulent plants are mostly under cover, apart from sempervivums. Welcome to the forum Darren.

Welcome Darren.

Here is a photo of a good chunk of my non-cacti succulents outside on my decking steps.

They will go in for the winter though.

I have three bowls of Sempervivum that will stay outside all year near a wall and a large Aloe polyphylla that is too big to take in that I am planning a rain cover for over winter.

Hi Darran, welcome to the forum, plenty of inspiration available here...

Here's my Haworthia, lives in the (open) front porch, had it more than twenty years and still going strong. Got re-potted this year and as you might just about be able to make out is just starting to think about flowering again.

Welcome to the forum Darran.
You don't need any excuse to obtain extra plants, other than the pleasure of growing them!
Enjoy
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.
