Late and scented flower

Post by Mike P »

Found this Notocactus (or Parodia if you fancy that more) warasii flowering today. Very sweetly scented.

That's interesting. I haven't found mine to have much if any scent.

Nice looking
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

That's lovely (tu), I've noticed that some of my cacti are producing rather late flowers, Gymnocalycium ragonesei is in flower today and has been flowering on and off since May.

Mine doesn't have any scent either, so you have a welcome bonus there. A pretty flower that l always I look forward to, especially as my specimens of N. magnificus are very reluctant to flower.

It’s hard to describe the scent - maybe some vanilla in there but sweeter. It’s the first time it’s flowered and it came as a surprise - I’m sure others I have seen in flower have been a deeper yellow.

Yes, the flower on mine is a deeper yellow than yours (no photo unfortunately), but yours is a very nice paler variation.

Mine's in flower today, too - a top cut of a really old plant. Couldn't detect any scent though.

Maybe hard to believe, but this is the same plant 18 years ago.
