I've purchased some Perlagro lava rock from ebay. I've been using it for the first time today. I've read some good things about using lava rock, it is also used as an aquarium filter media. Cacti seem to grow in it pretty well in the islands of Macaronesia
Hopefully it will be similar to molar clay. It was 17.99
For 30 liters which was a big sack full. so I've ordered some more. The particles are quite large average of maybe 12mm. I've seen different sizes available for the aquarium trade though it's usually more expensive.
I'm using it in my soil mix, and as a top dressing. Thought I'd post here in case anyone else was interested.

Re: Lava rock
That seems a good price. Where did you get it from?
Re: Lava rock
Hi Paul
I got it through eBay, their is a web site that sells the same brand, I desided to buy on ebay also free postage.i used one sack today and two more have just arrived.
I will give it a wash before I use it next time. I had a few plants that I'd bought last year in rubbish compost that needed new soil before they started to grow and didn't want them sitting in damp mix.

Re: Lava rock
A bit big for my little tiny plants, but could be good for larger things and maybe open beds.
