A cactus that deserves to be grown more widely
Gymnocalycium mesopotamicum is a relatively new discovery. 1980, I think? It has shiny green bodies and will form clumps after a while. It is easy enough to grow, handles sun well but can scorch in a hot greenhouse, is hardy well below freezing. All fairly innocuous, but it produces lots of very nice flowers.

I'd like to think that I'm great at identifying Gymnos - but I am not! Just happened to hover my cursor over the photo to reveal it is G. mesopotamicum, in case anyone else wonders.

Collection mainly of cacti, though interested in a much wider variety of plants than I can accommodate!

I did miss an important word out of that first sentence, didn't I?

Hoping my little G. Mesopotamicum might put on a show. Just one 1 years old.

Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs. Recently discovered gorgeous Gasteria.

The flowers should look spectacular on that tiny plant.

Taken a little longer to flower than I was expecting but the Bank Holiday sun finally did the trick.
