What’s your favourite genus of cactus? Mines Euphorbia
Jokes, it’s Ferocactus. More specifically glaucascens is the main reason. Thank heavens they’re common and cheap

Re: Favourite cacti genus?
good taste although these would be succulents not cacti, there is so much variety in shape, form & growth of these, you have to love them. Its quite nice there are even some variegated ones turning up too.Euphorbia
my other is variegated agaves plus a little of everything else
Euphorbia Ankarensis

Re: Favourite cacti genus?
Arios are definitely up there, just so unlike other cacti, also ferocactus, thelocactus, copiapoa, columnar cereus, small opuntiods , anything hairy, super spiny , spinless. I think that's enough to start with

The euphorbia comment was a joke - see the next sentence after it?
Pretty plant though.
Fero - sooooo...pretty much all cacti
Re: Favourite cacti genus?
That's a lovely euphorbia Tina. Euphorbias are another one of my favourites, so many beautiful forms, and many relatively unknown.
The strawberry press euphorbia journals are well worth looking out for

It’s difficult to choose a favourite genus, but Parodia, Gymnocalycium and Mammillaria are my favourite three

Although I don't have many plants of this genus, I would say Echinomastus if I look at the genus as a whole. There aren't many species (and you can debate what belongs in this genus), but I do like the look of all of them.

Re: Favourite cacti genus?
Oops, didn't read that bit obviously.
ATM my favourite cactus are my little group of Echinocactus horizontalonius such big bright flowers, as seedlings teenagers they are a bit moody & I kill a few but once you get them bigger they are a lot easier to grow. Quite a bit of spine variation in them.
Just for a change I have two flowering together so hopefully I'll get some seed.

Re: Favourite cacti genus?
I'd cheat and say Echinopsis as, depending on whose classification you go with, it seems to cover about half the cacti going and all my favourite hybrids! 'Rebutia' in the widest sense, would cover almost all the others I grow apart from some Opuntia!

I would vote for Soehrensia. They get big, they do really well outside, every individual seems to have different spines so that even though there aren't many species you can have different looking plants.
