A friend has sent me this picture because her mother would like to know what it might be.

Ideas please
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

No, not a Gasteraloe, the chunky, pointed and elongated triangular leaves point to it being a Haworthiopsis. The long thin flower spike looks typical for that genus too.

Guys
I'm much indebted to you. Sent your thoughts on this on to her.

My first thought was it looks like my Gasteraloe 'Royal Highness' but I don't remember the flowers on my plant being so close together and I think we are now supposed to call it a x Gastertulista (from previous Forum thread)

Can you ask for a close up in which the plant fills the pic, preferably under bright light?
H. radula also sprung to my mind, but its hard to tell for sure from this pic.

Haworthiopsis attenuata/attenuata var. fasciata are both commonly called "zebra plant" "zebra succulent" etc. Fasciata differs from plain attenuata in that there are less tubercules on the top of the leaves meaning the top of the leaves are flatter/smoother. Attenuata var. radula is usually a larger plant, with smaller & more tubercules on the leaves. For the reason that the plant pictured doesn't have the longer leaves of var. radula, I think we can rule out radula as a possible ID.

I agree that more pictures would help, preferable from different angles, from the top, side, and a picture of the leaves, etc.
