This one came in a 'try to save us' box. Bottom part obviously started to rot, but somehow it managed to stop it from further spreading. Epidermis was intact so I realized something was 'wrong' while washing the roots, when 'crust' started falling off. At the same time, main rooting system seems to be healthy and working properly. Maybe new roots are a kind of act of natural self defense, 'just in case'...

Yes, I've seen such behaviour quite a few times, where a plant somehow manages to seal off the rotten part, and then produce new roots from the healthy part.
