Not wasting a moment!

I am wondering whether chopping the tap root off will induce the smaller (feeder?) roots to thicken up and create a more prominent "nebari" (https://www.bonsaiempire.com/basics/sty ... face-roots).

These adansonia digitata were sown in February and had the lateral roots stopped about 6 weeks ago. The tap root was also stopped below the lowest lateral root. They're now 'field growing' and have recovered from their root pruning. Next root pruning will be spring when most of the tap root will be removed.

I'll just apply standard bonsai treatment Mike, looking to create a multi-branched small tree about 10" tall with much reduced leaf size. Luckily, I've got plenty of them as they seem to give up for no reason.

My brother sowed these in 2011 and the photo was taken last year. I think they're in 14" pots or thereabouts. He took them to Bulgaria with him when he moved over there in 2016 so they enjoy warm summers. He says the RSM love them there 'though!
