This rescue plant of Hilderwintera aureispina appears to be suddenly offsetting down the branches. I know it grows multibranched but these offsets seem to detach relatively easily., so presumably you remove them to keep the branches clean?
is this normal?

Active grower of caudiciform succulents and mesembs. I don't really grow cacti (very often).

Being unknowledgeable, I ask, "Do the offsets root easily?"MikeDom wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2023 2:02 pm This rescue plant of Hilderwintera aureispina appears to be suddenly offsetting down the branches. Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

I haven't tried to root them down, I view them more as an 'inconvenience'.el48tel wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2023 2:06 pmBeing unknowledgeable, I ask, "Do the offsets root easily?"MikeDom wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2023 2:02 pm This rescue plant of Hilderwintera aureispina appears to be suddenly offsetting down the branches. Given how much nurseries are charging for tiny cuttings of these I’d say you’re on to a winner!
Off topic, but some cracking tylecodons in one of your photos there.

Growing in Nottingham for the past 4 years and recently found my way to a Nottingham branch meeting. A few plants on a windowsill has very quickly turned into a greenhouse full!
Attempting to grow a range of turbinicarpus, coryphantha, escobaria and several other cactus genera. Tylecodons, pelargoniums and conophytums keep me occupied in the winter and an ever expanding number of gasteria live under the bench.

Re: is this normal?
I don't find Hildewintera usually that keen to produce offsets. It might be worth checking the growing points of those two branches. If the apical meristem is damaged or has died then you will find lots of lateral meristems often start into growth.
I'd let them get a bit bigger and then they should root relatively easily and grow on.

Thank you all, I'll let them grow on, having stabilised the pot to prevent it falling over, and will probably end up rooting the offsets.
