Late summer flowers

Post by Diane »

Beautiful weather where I am in the South East, with temps around 23°c today, and hopefully staying warm for the rest of the week. I’ve been doing some late watering (fingers crossed!) and there are still quite a few plants in flower, these stood out in particular.

Mammillaria schumannii sp. globosa (always a late summer bloomer):

One of my three Turbinicarpus alonsoi, 23 years old, these flower on and off all summer:

Good to see Diane, I've had a few late cactus flowers this year, always a nice surprise.

I've got 5 or 6 turbinicarpus in flower at the moment, including some that haven't flowered yet this year. Seems very late in the year...

I also popped out to the greenhouse yesterday evening to find my pygmaeocereus bieblii in flower again! The smell is incredible, and goes some way to masking the overpowering smell one of my euphorbias has been pumping out recently.
Growing in Nottingham for the past 4 years and recently found my way to a Nottingham branch meeting. A few plants on a windowsill has very quickly turned into a greenhouse full!

Attempting to grow a range of turbinicarpus, coryphantha, escobaria and several other cactus genera. Tylecodons, pelargoniums and conophytums keep me occupied in the winter and an ever expanding number of gasteria live under the bench.

Thanks Diane.
Brightened my day.
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Lophophoroides flowering for the first time for me. A lot more impressive than some of the other smaller flowers!
