December: Winter

So the topic for this month is Winter. Interpret it how you will!
To start you off here is Fouquieria splendens luxuriating in -5C today

I am X pachyveria corvus. My owner has been naughty and brought me in from outside to photograph me. I love winter time, rain, snow wind, minus 6 what's not to like, I am even having a baby I like it so much. My owner is now putting me back outside before I protest at being too warm.

Hello citizens of the UK. I am an Othonna, alien to the UK, moaning at being here in your winter. My DNA insists on me growing in your cold wet miserable climate. As a reward for helping me to survive I flower but sadly I am not as good looking or in as good shape as my relatives in South Africa. Thankfully I have an owner who does his best to look after me. Merry Christmas.

This winter has not been very photogenic so far, so I've dug out a few older photos. One with snow, a hybrid of Opuntia fragilis,

... and some with hoarfrost / ice crystals:

Sempervivum hybr.

Sempervivum wulfenii

and finally Rhodiola pachyclados, including a quite close look.

I hope you appreciate that I've limited myself to pictures where you can still see some plant life under the ice ...

A very difficult choice this month with some lovely snow covered pics , and I really enjoyed the lateral thinking captions from Ernie, but I’m going to choose Wolfgang’s closeup of Rhodiola as my favourite. Over to you Wolfgang for January’s topic

Just came back from a few days off - and now I found Ali Baba's choice as a nice surprise. Thanks for picking one of my pics!
