Steven Hammer online talk, Saturday, 5 October 2024

Post by potato »

Saw an announcement about this on Reddit and thought some folks here might be interested. From the original post:
Thought you guys might like to know about the ThornOasis live show from Steven Hammer's greenhouses this Saturday 10/5/24 at 2 PST! If the link isn't allowed, I've pinned it to my profile.

We'll be able to tour his extensive collection, listen to his stories, learn from his experiences, and even purchase some of his plants!

This event had to be booked well over 6 months in advance and it'll be the first time Hammer has ever made an appearance like this, so it'll be pretty special. Hope everyone can make it!🌱
Link to the talk is here: https://palmstreet.app/l/xs6xiP4l

That's 10 pm on the same date if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks!

Edit: can this be watched outside of the Palmstreet app, whatever it is?

I think you might be able to watch it in your Internet browser, but I've got nothing to do with the organization of this event so I can't say for certain.

Just three more hours and a bit. I hope I can watch it in the browser. At least there is a count down in the browser, so that is at least that...

Looks like it is not really a talk, more an online sale of Conophytums, unfortunately...

Yeah this wasn't what I was expecting based on the description. But at least the cono hybrids look cool and my wallet is safe from temptation

Kind of an opposite, wasn't it? Some nice plants and stories were to be seen and heard, but those prices!  :???: Anyway, glad I played it in the background for repotting.

I went to bed after the bulbine auction but I did notice the same person won all three auctions up to that point. Those prices indeed...

Anything interesting show up after the bulbines? I had been hoping to see a muiria or two, mostly out of morbid curiosity for the price.

Same same, I'd say. About half an hour of Haworthias, then some Crassulas and more Conos. A new information for me was that Tulista 'Donuts' and 'Angel's Tears' share the same Japanese seed parent and both were introduced by Bob Kent from the USA. Not exactly world changing knowledge, but nice to know for the :ugeek: Also Steven's pronunciation of Jakub Jilemicky's surname was quite entertaining!
