Monstrose cactus

Post by Tina »

How is this for an unusual monstrose cactus, can you ID it ?.
It doesn't seem to be that common but I'm sure once you have seen one you will remember it & want one  .
I can't wait for it to be become larger.

Even though it doesn't look like it - it's Homalocephala Texensis. Mine looked nice when small but has nasty splits as it grows.

That spoilt the fun Stuart, I do think they are a 'marmite choice'.
Mine has some odd marks, is it when the spines pop thru ?.

I'm glad there's someone else with similar feelings.

Ha ha, I won't get offended if you say it's ugly, I like odd/unusual plants, Colin used to call them 'plants only a mother could love'.

Well how about this one then, even I'm not sure I like it ATM, it was part of a swap package.
I don't even have a cultivar name for it, picture two shows the odd trident shaped tubercle.
I have a trifinger which looks nice but this one is off to the 'maybe section', it is a nice powder blue colour

I suppose you have to judge it against
1. What you gave in exchange
2. If the new one floats your boat
3. Any future financial gain if you trade up
