Do you know what is this insect in my seedbeds?

Post by yonnoy »

Hello,

I have some of these insects in my seedbeds. Please, check the photos, the rocks are pumice of 5 mm aprox.
My soil is 70% pumice and 30% organic compost. Do you know if they are dangerous for my seedlings? or how to deal with them?
I am living in Lima - Peru, South America.

Not sure but it looks like some kind of springtail species.
If you use instagram, this page might help.

Hello, I have just caught a baby insect (I couldn't catch an adult) and I used a small microscope to photograph it.
Do you have any idea?

I can't see a 'spring' so I think it may be a member of the Psocoptera, Bark and Book Lice.

I suggest that you put your photos into iNaturalist https://www.inaturalist.org/ the international community for naturalists.
Cacti and succulents with data - especially clonotypes, topotypes, old clones, ISI introductions - basically plants with stories!
