Storm damage?

Post by iann »

Surprisingly "calm" here. Not really even a gale, so nothing broken, but quite a puddle in the greenhouse from somewhere. Luckily only Echinocereus standing in it, but I've still taken the top dressing off the really soaked ones and brought them inside for a few days.

Stand them on a few sheets of newspaper; that will draw the moisture out of the soil. But make sure the (soon to be) wet newspaper is not on anything which itself be damaged by water absorption (been there, done that...)!

I'm on my way back from China today. The storm took out my internet, which is why my website has been offline for several days. Apparently one of our apple trees was blown over, and I hope there is not too much other damage...

Ralph
Hope you find things better than you anticipated.
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs. Recently discovered gorgeous Gasteria.

My internet is still down a week after my last posting, nearly 2 weeks after the storm, so my website is still offline. No sign of OpenReach doing any work to fix it either...

I'm using a backup phone-sim based gizmo for posting, but I can't connect it to my web server without a lot of fiddling and changing of configurations...

2 trees were blown over, and it is taking a while to saw them up for logs.

Yes we had a similar thing here in Scarisbrick Hall wood a couple of years ago and the farmer given the job of cutting them up must have been paid on a day rate as it took a week before the road was open.

Nothing so major here, although its all due to happen again this weekend. I've done a sticking plaster (not literally) patch-up on my glazing, put a tray under where it was dripping, and it will get looked at properly in the spring.
