a stand of Echinopsis flowers

Post by Phil_SK »

Three different plants are making a show this eve, plus a diddy one [Lobivia] looking on from the wings:

(The second photo was a 15s exposure, hence the orange UFOs in the background - street lamps beyond)
The little maximiliana doesn't care whether it's day or night - don't know what must pollinate it. (Photo taken at same time as 1st shot)

Wow! It's lovely to see a few flowering together!
Was your GH filled with 'perfume'??

Tending more towards cacti :D, particularly Gymnocalyciums, Rebutias, Sulcorebutias, Echinopses, Thelos, Feros and Mamms (and anything else I like the look of!) all in an 8 x 6 polycarb greenhouse and a few windowsills!

Not much of a perfume, really. The pink ones and the right-hand white one had released their scent by I took the later photo but the left-hand white one hadn't. Before I left for work today they all smelled close up but it never really fills the greenhouse. Lobivia jajoana is the only plant I have that does that - I think, being a day flowerer, it is helped by the heat.

Update: the two pinkish ones at the back have been open for 3 nights now, whereas the two (different) whites only lasted for one. They were joined last night by another pair - one white, one darker pink - here they are this morning along with sundry Lobivia:

Here's the pink one (from Abbey Brook years ago as E. carmineoflora) a little underexposed to show its pinkness:
