I said in the Eriosyce post I would open a new post for some of Roger Ferryman's habitat shots of Pyrrhocactus (sensu Backeberg non Ritter), or the Argentinian members of the now enlarged Eriosyce for those interested. Bear in mind that like all cacti these plants are variable both in spination and in flower colour, but I have only had about half an hour to extract and re-size the images to post, so just had to sample them.
Flower colour can vary even within some species from yellowish to reddish and Pyrrhocactus means "flame cactus" a reference to the reddish yellow or flame coloured flowers of some species. Anyway for those who are interested in Pyrrhocactus:-

P. bulbocalyx are often reddish spined, similar to the P. straussianus. As I said bear in mind these are just selected examples and there is variation within the species.
