re- new!

Post by Le Fakir »

Hello

I used to be a member of this forum but never wrote anything...
so I would like to shortly introduce myself:
I'm about 40 years old and live in Chamapgnier close to Grenoble (French Alpes, S E of France)).
I'm growing cacti and succulent for nearly 20 years with up and down...
and the last 8 years were more like "up" !!!!
I'm a member of AJEM (Jardin Exotique de Monaco), of CSSA (the famous American association), of BSI (Broms), and ARIDES (French association too) and BCSS. I'm on different web forums.
I have started with cacti because of their "graphical" beauty and put slowly more interest in phytogeography and clones with local data. For the last 10 years, I'm a lot more into the hardy cacti and succulents, trying to acclimataze plants by selecting specific clones..
I made a small greenhouse (18m2) (concrete+wood+polycarbonate)
http://public.fotki.com/El-Fakir/rocail ... ion-serre/
and 1 plastic tunnel greenhouse
http://public.fotki.com/El-Fakir/rocail ... in-meylan/
and made several cactus beds covered or uncovered
http://public.fotki.com/El-Fakir/rocailles-et-serres-1/
in different places around my house...

And at the moment I'm eyeing the lands in front of my house...!!!

We have here hot summers with 33-36 c and cold winters with -6 -4 c with every once in a while cold spells at -9 that can drop extremely to -13c (like last winter). Rainfall is between 600 and 1000 mm with more than 2000 h of sunlight. We are at 250m high.

That's it for now
Bye

Thierry

ps: sorry for my english
Feel free to enjoy pics of plants and trips !!!

Thank's again!!
The aim of the kind of building was not to use any heating ... so I went through different books and articles of the 70' to get information about insulation and heating saving system like solar passive greenhouses.
That was a try...
