Hi there,
A Romanian friend having a fabulous collection - Basarab Popa of Constanta (a city at the Black Sea) - has posted on a local forum two very interesting photos of an Astrophytum (Digitostigma) caput-medusae offsetting from the areoles placed at the tip of the long tubercules:

Is this the normal offsetting way for this plant? What happens next? Can the offset be separated and rooted? If so, when is the best time?
Cheers from downunder,
Eduart
