MESEMB STUDY GROUP BULLETIN - 2/2011

Post by topsy »

Hi all,

Thank you for being patient, the MSG Bulletin which is overdue has at last been mailed today. Again I shall be interested to know when they start arriving as although I have paid for second class postage, the stamps I was given to put on were two first class stamps, upon querying this I was told that the sorting office goes by the postage paid and the weight, not what the stamp(s) have printed on them! We shall see.

Best wishes, Suzanne

Received mine today. Many thanks, Suzanne... here are a few hints and highlights by way of an advert for joining the MSG, I hope this is OK.

Guest editorial by Terry Smale explaining the mysteries of the MSG seed distribution. (198 orders were mailed out in 2011 - the circulation of the MSG Bulletin is given on the contents page as 489, so indeed a high proportion of the membership takes up the seed offers.)
Mesembs in Southern Gauteng (Delosperma photos and discussion).
Chapter 22 of Desmond & Naureen Cole's "Lithoparian Recollections".
A new place to stay in Namibia - with a "Lithoparium" and a wedding chapel under construction (!)
A new USA Agent for the MSG.
"Bushmanland Diaries" by Phil Desmet, reporting on habitat study of Conophytums.
"Flowering Tomes" - a very exciting new publication venture with its own website, and mesembophiles are invited to contribute - no, I won't spill the beans, you must join the MSG if you want to know more :shift: ... except that the author of the BCSS Lithops book is the helmsman of this sphaeroid ship.
Article by Gary Stoten on "A Cono Paradise", the BCSS Zone 6 Mini Convention.
And more!!!

Ever hopeful, trying to grow plants from arid sunny climates in the UK!
Lithops, Haworthia, Adromischus, other south African succulents including Ceropegia and some Crassula.

I am sure mine would have arrived by now, if we were not covered in volcanic ash! No planes flying here and that includes the mail plane. So I will just have to wait for mine. I was flying down to Edinburgh tomorrow morning but that has been cancelled :angre: So trip to Yorkshire cancelled. Still I will be able to read My MSG bulletin earlier than planned
