Parodia ID

Post by jfabiao »

I have bought this plant at a supermarket a couple of years ago. It has flowered last year and it has flowered this year again, but I am feeling uncomfortable as to its name. I tentatively ID'd it as Parodia comarapana. I learned since then that P. comarapana is a synonim with P. mairanana, which I believe is a VERY different plant with the single hooked central spine, the orangy-red flowers and the bulging ribs. So, it's either not P. comarapana or I will have to live with the fact that two very different plants are supposed to belong to the same species (something we, cacti lovers, have to get used to in these lumping days). Any ideas greatly appreciated, thank you.
