Re: September 2013 - Genus of the Month - Copiapoa
Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't it be C. hypogaea as opposed to hypogeae? hypogaea, of course, meaning 'below Earth' owing to how they grow in habitat. A great genus, but one which isn't easy to grow in such a way as to do them proper justice. At least not in this country.

Yes, no e on the end. Here's a recent photo of C. lauii, now generally treated as part of C. hypogaea.

Speaking of extra letters on the end......iann wrote:Yes, no e on the end. Here's a recent photo of C. lauii, now generally treated as part of C. hypogaea.

Double "i" is so much more distinguished, don't you think?

Here's one that came to me from Doug Rowland 3 years ago , it's labelled c.mollicola , it has a lovely purple shade to it & twists slowly as it grows. I thought maybe it should be mollicula but not to worried about the name as I really like the plant & have memories of Doug & Vivi who were always such nice hosts.
