My trio for today are all of dubious identity - comments welcome.
First is a lone seedling from seed labelled G. ochoterrenae VS94, only VS94 should be a Maihueniopsis.
P7050033.JPG
Next, a pair of seedlings. Quite often when I'm choosing which to keep from a batch of seedlings, I'll pick two that are fairly different. In this case, from a packet of G. striglianum JPR 92-87/197, they look just a bit too unalike. Is one of them monvillei, I wonder?
P7050048.JPG
The final prickly pair, are G. reductum ssp. reductum WP89, only Wolfgang Papsch's FNs don't take that format (there are lots of WP89-xx/xx, though, so it might a truncation error). These are from the BCSS seed distribution of Dec 2007, so I'm holding the BCSS responsible for this calamity. Can anybody redeem it's reputation by suggesting what's gone wrong?

Some less spiny ones today.
P7050037.JPG
G. bodenbenderianum 'piltziorum' P38 - OK, that's still fairly spiny.
P7050044.JPG
More G. bodenbenderianum, this one is 'platygonum' WR224a.

A G. ochoterenae 'vatteri altautinense' LB1451

Just a common old Gymno gibbosum....and not a particularly good form.....but rather special in that it lives outside - and has done, uncovered, for about 5 years.

Affectionately known as "Dennis", after the generous Liverpool Forum member who donated it.

Quite remarkable that it lives outside, all year. But then, you do live in dry, sunny Sheffield. Congratulations.
Obsessive Crassulaceae lover, especially Aeoniums but also grow, Aloes, Agaves, Haworthias and a select number of Cacti.

Chris, I had a Gymnocalycium chubutense (now G. gibbosum ssp. chubutense) survive outside this winter. It was a very tatty donated plant and when it failed to find a home at the auction was destined for the bin. Lucky for it that it was put to one side and forgotten. Having been soaked through, frozen and snowed on it looks healthier than before and is now beginning to offset. I've allowed it into the greenhouse so that I can propagate it.
