James, not sure they need heat. I’ve never given any.

Have a couple of questions if anyone would be so kind to lend their advice:
Have a couple of questions if anyone would be so kind to lend their advice:
- The sand has gone green - is this algae? If so, what can / should I do about it? Get some fine sand and cover?
- What are the shoots? They're not roots...are they the 2nd leaf developing?

Hi James,
Well done, I killed mine this time .
Don't worry about the algae it won't bother the aloe's, they like damp conditions.
They are the roots trying to get in the soil be very careful about damaging them, you could add a bit more soil but they should sort themselves out.

Re: Aloe polyphylla germination
Thanks for the info Tina and oh no! What went wrong?
I was convinced they were not roots as the other roots had little hairs on it. I'll leave them as they are and see what happens then.
Off topic, here are a couple more pics from the welcome seeds I received when I joined.

I put them on the work surface over the radiator not thinking during the cold spell it was on most of the day & evening so they got boiled , I have some from the other year so it's not as bad as that

Re: Aloe polyphylla germination
Polyphylla @ 10 weeks:
The two Rozetvormed that came up both died; lost one a couple of weeks ago and now the other. Did they rot? Can I take a cutting of this one and save it?
All others doing well. Though had to move them from one windowsill as they started to go a reddish-purple!

Re: Aloe polyphylla germination
Side note: 'rozetvormend' is Dutch for 'forming a rosette', and most likely not part of the plant's name (Aloe dichotoma).

Re: Aloe polyphylla germination
Looks like rot. Aloe don't come from leaf cuttings as far as I know and even things that do don't usually work from rotten leaves, sorry.
The polyphylla are looking good though. I'm still getting seeds germinating in water this year - had three more since coming back from holiday.
