I used a petri dish and some kitchen towel to soak my A. Polyphilla seeds as instructed above and all 11 have germinated. They were from this years BCSS seed list.
They were kept on my north facing bedroom windowsill without any extra heat and they all germinated within 15 days. Early May on the south coast may be warmer than elsewhere in the country of course.
I potted them up yesterday and put them in poly bags, they are still ok this morning so fingers crossed that they might be OK.
Thanks to everybody who has contributed to this thread, this is a plant that I have wanted since reading an article about Lesotho many years ago. I may still loose them all due to my own incompetence but just getting this far is more than I ever dreamed of.
And thanks to the seed distribution team and the seed donor as well of course.

Ok so I have 11 remaining seedlings. Best treatment for their first winter? Currently I’m still watering them.

Carry on watering them, they don't like to be dry. I don't think you can overwater them

I keep my plants frost free for the first winter and water them as the top of the compost starts to dry out. I don't let them get fully dry but equally don't want them to be soaking all the time.
