... of this Edithcolea grandis bud going the full distance? Once again, I’m waiting with bated breath and hoping it doesn’t abort.
(See last year’s thread - https://www.forum.bcss.org.uk/viewtopic ... &start=150 almost exactly a year ago)
I spotted the buds about 6 or 7 weeks ago, when the plant was out on the bench. Cold weather in August prompted me to put it in the propagator for safety, and I’ve been watching developments ever since.
These are such frustrating plants to grow - they seem to cut contact with their root systems on a regular basis, and, although the top growth doesn’t rot (unless really overwatered) they have to be rooted all over again. I suppose it’s a survival mechanism in habitat.
From what I’ve read on various FB forums, they do need plenty of water when in bud, so I’ve been diligent in making sure it doesn’t dry out.
Just hoping I haven’t given it the “kiss of death” by posting this now!
The bud is about 1 inch across in my estimation.
What are the chances...

Ooh how exciting, three buds, fingers crossed its one I would like to flower.
I wondered about a hanging basket for these as they get quite messy

There are actually more than three, Tina, but I don’t expect them to develop much. Yes, a hanging pot is the ideal way to grow them, if you can get it to grow large enough...

Re: What are the chances...
I'd be tempted to remove all but the biggest two buds so it's just concentrating all its energy on them but I'm cruel like that. I think if I ever flower one I'll stop growing it as the challenge will be over
