One of my plants from 2018 MSG seed is a vigorous grower, having split its 2.5” pot last year and is now in a 3.5” pot. It had a few leaves last year but this year I count 6 significant leaves. There are also 2 clumps of tiny leaves forming at the base, so will these become pups or are they just additional growing points? I can’t find any information on this, unsurprisingly.

I'm sure I have read, and it's my experience also, that T. singularis is quite often not single leaved in cultivation.

I have a couple of plants that date back to the first seeds from Peter Bruyns's collection and they have stayed with single growing points. It is quite common for plants to have one or two extra subsidiary leaves, particularly when young. However, it certainly looks as though yours is doing something unusual.

Incidentally, I sent some seed to the BCSS distribution and sowed some myself in September with modest results. However, the wasted seed which fell onto pots below the mother plants has germinated extremely well as weeds. Is there a lesson here? Perhaps the tiny seeds prefer being between coarse grit particles rather than fine grit; are there any beneficial soil micro-organisms in those pots; have I kept the deliberate sowing too moist?

When I sowed the MSG seeds, I accidentally let the seeds dry out due to neglect and watered them thinking all hope was lost. To my surprise I had full germination, so I don’t think there is a one-size-fits-all method for germination.

Today, the leaves clump fell off when I moved the pot. It may have been detached for a while as there are no fresh scars on the corm. The top has produced a multitude of small roots so I have potted it up to see if it will grow on it’s own and produce a corn. It looks as if the beginnings of a corm are just starting.

I didn’t know you could root the leaves.

I wonder if there is a piece of tuber at the base of that leaf clump, which is producing the roots? It does not look as though they are coming from a single leaf base.

My plant passed away after 2 years of being alive but not sprouting, is this common ?.

I've had a plant which one year made no leaves at all, and I nearly chucked it out, except for the fact that the root still seemed solid, and sure enough, the following year it started growing again.

I was successful in rooting leaves last year to the point of small corms being formed. Unfortunately, this year, these remained blind and didn't produce any growth. I will check in the spring if anything is still in the pot.
Good news is that the plants I had leaves from, came into growth without any problems.
