Very recent acquisition - is this a regular Asterias or a Super Kabuto?...

Cactus art-biz web site, shows an identical picture to yours named A astarias. I do not think it is Super kabuto. Very nice plant though, and compost needs a lot of grit I presume. Cheers

I suspect its a hybrid. Each of those ribs has got an angle in the middle, which pure asterias doesn't have. The angle usually indicates a bit of another Astrophytum somewhere in its ancestry.

Has flowered now...

If it is a hybrid, does the flower give any clue to its ancestry?

I don't think so. Most Astrophytum flowers look pretty similar, with varying amounts of red.
