I would never have guessed this to be a Melocactus too. But a the background does not seem out of place for a Copiapoa? I know them to be coastal plants, usually on cliffs next to the water taking advantage of the water vapour, for many pictures I can remember having seen of Copiapoas. Still it looks more like an Echinocactus or Parodia to me...

Interesting article Terry. Some of my colleagues in my research group Cardiff University worked on nonphotorealistic rendering - computer algorithms that take in a photo, and automatically re-render it in an "artistic" style.
