Very nice Mike!
Do you have any idea how old that is?
I have a single seedling from seed sown last year, I really hope I don't kill it!

I have, perhaps, watched too many B-movies with tentacle monsters. It looks like it is thrashing around as it blindly seeks its prey. A very dynamic pose.

The last time I saw them for sale, they were nice clustering plants like the one shown here but limited to one per person! It's not very well-known and not easy to find though doesn't seem to need extra winter heat like so many other Madagascan plants.

It is from about 80km (50 miles) north of the southernmost tip of Madagascar, presumably slightly cooler there.
The habitat photos from Jean-Bernard Castillon (are you allowed to name a plant after yourself or a relative with the same name?) with the herbarium sheet are quite impressive.

The herbarium specimen is rather minimalist.

I got it 4 years ago as the tiniest of plants from Alan Butler.

Ah, that is where you got the spelling mistake, it is still on with that spelling on his website. Should be
Aloe castilloniae. I did hint in my last post

Interesting, thanks.
So it's not super-duper slow growing.

A smart plant, MIke.
You will remember there was an informative thread on this species last year too, started by Colin W.
