Dormant or dead?

I've had these few plants aprox one year. They've happily lived on north facing windowsill. Until about 2 months ago they looked green and healthy and observably grew during that time. But in the last 2 months they have become increasingly greyish and sort of shrivelled looking. I'd read that they need a dormancy period, so I thought maybe that was it and stopped watering them. What has happened to them?

Just resting, and perhaps trying to hide from the heat and light. Dont worry, they will perk up when watered. Many of my Haworthias look like this. As they are on a North facing window, I think it's OK to keep watering them as long as the room is not too hot.
