Hey guys,
I've just received this alexanderii and I must say I'm quite iffy about it.
Top cladode looks perfectly fine, but the bottom part is quite worrying. I'm not sure if this is 100%rot , it feels soft but not complerely mushy, no leakages and roots seem to be firmly attached.
Is the bottom cladode seems like a goner or is it a normal way for this plant to look like when it's under ground?
Kind regards,
Jura

I can't see anything to worry about in the photo, it looks quite normal to me. It's normal for cacti to feel a bit soft at this time of year if they've been dry for a few months.

It is just a small cutting with the lower half of the bottom section being placed below the surface to root it down, and it seems to have a good root already.
I agree with Stuart it looks normal , and thats how you would expect it to look for a cutting.
Seed grown plant would look completely different in the lower part, but would not be any better as a plant.

Thank you very much for your responses guys, very appreciated!
It seems to be alive and kicking anyway, planted it in 100% inorganic so hoping for a good growth + new cladode this year
