May - 2022 Don't hide your hybrids.

Post by el48tel »

I'd like to see your pictures of hybrids. Can be succulents or cacti.
Can be flowering or not. I am going to judge the quality of the picture and not how you grow the plant. I want to see how you show off your plants to other enthusiasts.
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

That's exactly what I had in mind .... and so quickly!

Aylostera 'Celebration' which is one of Southfield's hybrids - I keep a couple of A4 cards to slip behind/under plants in my greenhouse to try and get clearer pictures of the individual plants, can't always decide whether black or pale grey is best...

I did take a picture of this plant yesterday before seeing this month's topic so I had left the label in the pot but this picture shows setup used with card placed on upturned pot in tray at edge of greenhouse bench

Jim
Thanks
I knew you'd rise to the challenge.
Can't comment on background colour because it is a competition.
And of course you never spot the "tombstone" until after clicking.
I've been giving a presentation about taking better pictures of your plants for a while now ..... and "stop and look" is one of the things I stress.
My mission is to see all pictures of plants properly presented .... and shared for all to enjoy.
Personally, I have difficulty remembering some things, so often I take a picture of the plant then one of the plant plus the label.

The hybrid referred to as Aeonium "goblin" in the UK.

Here's an unknown undulatum x Zwartkop hybrid, that I received as "Aeonium Giant purple". It makes all the plants around it look small.

I've not got may hybrids so mightnot get another suitable subject for this month's competition (but probably got some old ones if I search my hard drive)

Probably last picture of Aylostera 'Celebration' as flowers are beginning to fade, previous pictures were fairly quick captures in greenhouse using phone. today I brought the plant into my studio (dining room table) and used mirrorless camera.
