Tonight’s the night

Post by Mike P »

Looks like tonight’s the night. Unknown Trichocereus and the last plant I have from my uncle’s collection from the 1970’s. Never actually seen it in flower before because it was kept away from the house and was always finished by the time I got there. Now on the allotment so I’ll pop back later for a look.

Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Early this morning. Any suggestions as to which Trichocereus this is?

Snap - here is one of mine from way back in 2007:
This was labelled as T. manguinii, a synonym of schickendantzii.

Thanks both. I was put off schindantzii as the name as certain internet sites claim it to be unscented.

Britton and Rose claimed that the flower doesn't smell. However, the human sense of smell isn't always reliable and sometimes flowers don't release their scent as soon as they open nor does the scent always last until they fade. I wouldn't consider it a good classification characteristic. There was an article in CactusWorld a while back where a scented schickendantzii was given a cultivar name.
