Some you win ... some you lose ..... but ....

Post by el48tel »

I acquired an Echinopsis ancistrophora a few years from an old collection. At the same time I bought seeds of the plant from MesaGarden. The seeds have produced me one plant which is a good looker. The old plant lost its growth tip but has produced endless offsets. One of these is now nearly the size as the parent. The other is not far behind. There are legion of others of different sizes and ages. As I was looking across my tray of plants for sell or swap I noticed an offset which had a tiny bud forming. That was abstracted immediately. Today I notice the parent plant is coming towards the end of its life ... looking very sad. And .... one of the bigger offsets is showing buds .... and today I notice the MesaGarden seedling is showing signs.
Funny world isn't it?
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

It also means ...
1. I can get Echinopsis ancistrophora seeds because I have two different plants at last
2. Pollen for the hybrids programme here in Leeds
3. Pollen for the hybrids group

Appendages crossed.

I added to the reserve of crossing by visiting Southfields last weekend. And managed to buy plants with offsets on them. And tonight .... I have been at a practical session on grafting. All skills and resources.
