Well, I spoke too soon. Was watering Saturday to find out mine has sadly died. The top part is now complete mush. Hard to believe as it flowered continuously this year.

Would there be any hope if I cut it back to the woody stem and pray for an offset?

Yes, it will just offset. You might get more than one new head. Just don't cut it off too low, I think. Leave enough stem.
