As an experiment over a single plant a cool white (high blue) LED would be worth trying - wouldn't cost much. Using an LED, there would be almost no heat, so it could sit very close to the plant.
I do not know the answer either, but how do the same plants look grown in S Spain or Italy, compare with the same grown in UK/NL/B/D?
