So I'd say that's definitely Cleistocactus brookeae and most likely subsp. brookeae.

Absolutely nowt to do with C. winteri (aka aureispina).

BTW the flower of C. winteri is far less zygomorphic (bilaterally symmetrical) than that of C. brookeae.
Cheers,
Colin

Ed,
I have lots of propagations of C. winteri (aka Winteria aureispina, etc) - it is one of my regular props. from old sections of plant stems - photo to follow tomorrow.

That would be great Tony, thanks. Happy to trade for something (like one of the growths of this! Or other things.) if you wish?

One of the troubles of being an obsessive propagator! This plant originated from Ken Burke (Pete & Ken's Cactus Nursery) back in 1991, then labelled Borzicactus aureispinus. Rooted sections of an old stem quickly produce fresh young stems to then remove and root down.

As Colin says, this species has "non-Cleisto" flowers unlike brookeae.

Just PM your address to me and I'll send you a piece. I have no particular wants at the moment - my wife Jenny tells me that I should be reducing my stock! Ha! Ha!
