You do wonder if the plant makes one last effort, I have never had this happen with Pterocactus or Opuntia but over the years I have had a few pop their clogs after flowering mainly in the Aylostera/Rebutia group, they seem to flower themselves to death or know pollination and seeds is the only way to survive.

The whole thing has gone unfortunately. I'm scratching my head as to what went wrong and can only assume it was weather related. There were a couple of sunny days after I last watered and I'm wondering if the plant (along with one of my other Pterocactus) was cooked.
I just saw this so went straight out to check my greenhouse.
I have five forms of fischeri out there. Four of them are in robust health. The fifth, KP161 is alive, but looking sickly. Strange…. Spooky even.
