Ray's "Autumn sunshine" post inspired me to dig out a few more of my plants today. Astrophytum DNA must be so mixed up these days in cultivated plants that I must check out pictures of habitat plants as I'm intrigued by the amount of red in the flower throats.
Also, am I imagining it or or there plants out there in cultivation with pink or even white flowers???

Those are lovely clean plants, Ross! Yes there are some red cultivars around, I have a couple of A. asterias with red flowers and an A. Capricorne (or senilis, can’t remember!) with red flowers, all grown from seed, see pics below.
Not sure about white flowers, I’ve never seen any.

Re: Astrophytums
Impressive - I've not seen a red Capricorne before, I've bought a few Asterias from a UK nursery labelled pink and they've always turned out yellow. In theory any cactus can produce a white flower but I've never seen a white Astrophytum.
Quite a few Myriostigmas have flowers that look a pink shade towards the end but those two photos are just stunning.

Fantastic Diane! I might have a look for seeds of the red/pink flowered plants and keep my fingers crossedDiane wrote: ↑Sat Aug 27, 2022 2:52 pm Those are lovely clean plants, Ross! I guess I might have just dreaming of a white flowered Astrophytum
Well the myriostigma both decided to open their flowers after lunch, on what's been another pleasantly warm and sunny day

Re: Astrophytums
I've grown a few from seed claimed to be pink, but never had results like those!
